Baby Blessing Rituals

Candle Ceremony
Lighting candles is a lovely way to bring a sacred feel to the atmosphere. Afterwards each guest will take her candle home and light it until it burns completely when she hears the mother is in labor sending her love and light during her birth process.

Smudging Circle
Smudging is the common name given to the sacred smoke blessing, a powerful cleansing technique used by American Indians for millennia. Smudging is the art of cleansing yourself and your environment using an herb called sage. It is said to restore balance and bring positive energy into a space.

The Blessing Bead Necklace

Each invited guest will bring one bead that reminds them of the mother to be. We will string the beads on a leather cord for her to wear during the remainder of her pregnancy, labor and to cherish as a keepsake. Each woman will share the meaning behind her chosen bead. Many mothers have said that these birth beads give them strength and focus during labor. It is a powerful way to provide her with energy filled with sisterhood, love and support which surrounds her during the birth process.

Henna Belly Art
The new mother will be pampered in a unique way. We will all adorn her with wonderful temporary tattoo art on her belly (or wherever she would like) to celebrate her pregnancy and growing tummy. For several mothers, this is a powerful visual aid during labor as she can focus on her own strength as she watches her tummy, as well as the wonderful bonds she has with those who celebrated her pregnancy with her.

Prayers, Poems, and Blessings
Each woman will be given a parchment scroll in which she will write her blessing or wish for the mother to be. The blessings will be collected in a basket and presented to her to reflect on whenever she desires to reconnect to her sisterhood.

Sacred gifts include: Intention scrolls with prayers, blessing bead necklace, candles, henna and a wish box for all of your blessings!!
